No, not for me. But maybe someday 🙂 Im really happy with it! There are a few minor things that Ill do different next time, but for a beginning dress well, Im just happy it fits and looks cute. 🙂 So how did I do it? I traced around the bodice of one of Emmas store-bought dresses and figured out how long and wide the skirt material of the dress was, then dived in! I followed a lot of the advice given in this tutorial on how to make a knot dress by Everday Chaos (I LOVE her for posting a tutorial!) but did a couple of things differently including not putting elastic on the back (something I wish I had done now because the dress would be able to be worn longer) and adding a button closure on the side. With the warm summer weather and beautiful green flora come creepy crawly friends bugs! Bees, caterpillars, ants, butterflies, spiders, and ladybugs fill our yard. And Emma is completely fascinated with them! Well, fascinated and a bit nervous. I decided that a good way to combat that nervousness and maybe prevent a future bug phobia was to get up close and personal with the bugs in our yard. So we pulled out this awesome set of Big View Bug Jars and the Explorers Set from Learning Resources and began our bug-hunting adventure! Does this look like fun or what? Those colorful jars are the perfect size for studying bugs up close! But first you have to catch them! So off we went in search of a bug. Faux Baby Pigtails (for bald baby girls) Im curious. Is it a great way to avoid having people think your baby is a boy? Or perhaps a bit insulting to the child? I can see both sides. Especially since I have been the mommy of a bald baby girl. 🙂 But she was so girly she didnt look like a boy in the least. Plus I had her in dresses constantly. Also, I used these stick-on bows when her hair was too short for clips. LOVED them! But seriously. What do you think?
There have been a few rainy days this summer, making outside play impossible unless we want to get soaking wet. So weve had to get creative inside! This is one of those things I remember doing as a child, taking all the cushions off the couch and collecting pillows from around the house and then creating a small obstacle course. Or just leaping from one cushion to another. 🙂 I dont know why such a simple thing is so much fun, but it IS! And its something that entertains little ones for a very long time. Besides jumping from one cushion to another, we stacked them up high and I asked Emma to close her eyes and pretend she was sleeping. This was her first attempt This second attempt at feigning drowsiness is a little too good, dont you agree? Those pictures remind me of The Princess and the Pea….
Heres my latest sewing project: soft baby blocks! These were fun to make up, and it helped me to use up a scrap of striped flannel I wasnt sure what to do with. 🙂 These are made up of 6 squares sewn together in a cross shape and then sewn into a square. You can find a terrific tutorial here at Smile and Wave! I stuffed mine with polyfil only (and bells and crinkly paper for extra fun) but if you want them truly square and stackable, you need something stiff like cardboard on each side inside. Ill probably do that next time. Isaac likes how soft and squishy these are, though. 🙂 Next up, Im attempting to make a soft scottie dog stuffed toy!
Have you ever come to the realization that youll never get a new _____(insert that longed-for something here)_____ because what you have is serviceable enough to get you by? Like an unattractive or uncomfortable couch that could be replaced by a nicer one or a small TV that you would really like to replace with a larger version? Sometimes it can be hard to replace something unless it just dies. And you might need to help it along in that case. Like, you know, let your toddler get hold of a permanent marker a little too close to the couch Dont look at me like that, I would never really be that devious! No really! 😉 Aaaanyway, Ive wanted an entertainment center for awhile now, something that has doors that you can close on the TV (the better to remove the television from my preschoolers mind), has room for speakers…
Got anything fun planned for this weekend? My parents are graciously going to come and watch my adorable perfect children (hee hee) while John and I go out to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in IMAX 3D. Sooooooooo excited! Both about the movie (Ive never seen a 3D movie!) and having a day out. 🙂 Are you going to see this movie?
Emma could blow bubbles all day long. Actually its meee that gets to be the bubble-blower. I must be getting old because I feel slightly lightheaded after awhile. I dont remember that happening when I was a kid! Its worth it, though! She has SO much fun. Does your little one like bubbles this much?
