Pinkplicity

Im one of those people who obsessively keeps track of blog giveaways. My favorite sites are Prizey, Prize-A-Tron, and Bloggy Giveaways. It can be rather distracting and time consuming but hey, Ive already won something! Four childrens books in fact, so its not a waste of time, my friends! Ive also been a fan of Etsy.com, a place to buy and sell handcrafted items online. There are so many treasures there and today I found a great Etsy store called Pinkplicity. It features the most beautiful little girls dresses, skirts, and aprons I have ever seen. The creator of these masterpieces knows just how to combine the right colors and patterns to make a truly one-of-a-kind treasure. I just couldnt NOT blog about this. 🙂 My favorite dress is the Itsy Bitsy Pink 6 months dress, it is just beautiful and would look amazing on Emma, I know. 🙂 Good…

Dragon’s Milk

I secretly (well, not so secretly anymore) have a fascination with dragons. It all started with a book my mom read to me when I was a child Dragons Milk by Susan Fletcher. Dragons Milk is a very well-written fantasy novel about Kaeldra, a young girl who is on a quest to save her little sister, who falls deathly ill with a disease that is only curable with a mother dragons milk. Kaeldra finds herself bargaining with a dragon for some of the dragons milk (she is surprised and a little dismayed to discover that she is one of the rare few humans who can communicate with dragons with her mind). I was completely drawn in on Kaeldras journey and discovery of who she was. And I still am every time I re-read this and the next two books in the series although a childrens book, these stories are definitely…

Currently Reading: A Sweetness to the Soul by Jane Kirkpatrick

A Sweetness to the Soul Jane Kirkpatrick (Information taken from Amazon.com) Based on historical characters and events, A Sweetness to the Soul recounts the captivating story of young, spirited Oregon pioneer Jane Herbert who at the age of twelve faces a tragedy that begins a life-long search for forgiveness and love. In the years that follow, young Jane finds herself involved in an unusual and touching romance with a dreamer sixteen years her senior, struggles to make peace with an emotionally distant mother, and fights to build a family of her own. Filled with heart-warming insight and glimpses of real-life pain, A Sweetness to the Soul paints a brilliant picture of love that conquers all obstacles and offers a powerful testimony to the miracle of Gods healing power. I love Jane Kirkpatricks writing. She can make a time and place come alive with such real people that you think of…

Faking Grace by Tamera Leigh

Faking Grace by Tamera Leigh Reviewed for BookLoons Maizy is a faker. But she desperately needs a job, and when the post of editorial assistant at Christian publishing company Steeple Side comes up, she knows she has to try for it. Assuming that the best way to impress them is to play the part of good little Christian, she begins a superficial makeover immediately. First, thankfully she has the appropriate name Maizy Grace. Get the play on words there? Cruel of her mother. She asks Steeple Side to call her Grace. Next, she makes up a checklist to follow, one that will assure that she has covered all her bases get the Christian speak down, find a church, sport the appropriate accessories (such as Christian bumper stickers, jewelry, etc). Its a good thing she bought that oh-so-helpful book, The Dumb Blondes Guide to Christianity! Not that she isnt a Christian…

Review of Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Wicked Lovelyby Melissa MarrHarperCollins, 2007 In Wicked Lovely, there are two dimensions to Aislinns world. Beyond the normal urban life around her is a beautiful and terrifying aspect that only she sees a realm in which faeries co-exist with unsuspecting mortals. They are not your average fairy godmothers either. Many are rude and rowdy, ready to make trouble in any form. Aislinn (Ash) bears the burden of the faery sight, inherited from her mother and grandmother, by pretending not to notice them. She follows rules made for the safety of those who have the sight: Rule #1: Dont ever attract faeries attention. Rule #2: Dont answer invisible faeries. Rule #3: Dont stare at invisible faeries. Memoirs

I love to read memoirs and autobiographies not biographies so much because I like it to hear the real story. I just finished Days on the Road: Crossing the Plains in 1865, The Diary of Sarah Raymond Herndon and loved it! I was surprised and pleased to find that she was a strong Christian and a very smart woman (24 years old). When I borrowed it from the library I just thought it looked interesting, so that was definitely a plus. She was very philosophical, too. Obviously not an airhead and very popular with almost everyone she met the wagon train she and her family was a part of loved her, you could tell even though she was very modest in her journal. I found some parts fascinating and completely new to me such as the fact that they churned milk into butter by leaving it in the wagon while…

My Thoughts

Its been awhile since I read a book I couldnt put down. Sometimes, when I dislike a book after Ive finished it, I wonder if I would have liked it had I been in a different mood. Should books be given a second chance or be forever marked in the mind as not good enough to suit me? This is why I hesitate to write reviews on certain books. Many have potential well, in my mind every story has potential. Take one plot and give it to two different authors and they will come up with something completely different. One may be a bestseller, written with heart and feeling, and the other uncomparable. That said, have you ever noticed how books that you have truly disliked because they werent written well or the characters werent real enough always seem to have at least one five-star review from someone who loved it?…
