Children’s Book Review: Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox

Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox Written by Susan Blackaby, Illustrated by Carmen Segovia Hardcover, Sterling Publishing, January 2011 Recommended for ages 4-8 This book will give you and your child hope that spring is coming again! Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox is a story of both the passing of winter and the coming of spring, and stars two of the most delightful animal characters Ive come across in awhile! Happy Groundhog Day! But when Brownie steps outside, theres not even the slightest sign of spring-just her shadow, a frosty field, and a hungry fox who wants to munch her for lunch. Determined not to become a meal, Brownie finds a clever and tasty way to melt the ice and turn Fox into a friendand make the wait for winters end a little warmer. I had no idea groundhogs were as perceptive as Brownie is in this book or…

Luna Lullaby’s Bounce-A-Bye Baby Birthing/Exercise Ball (Giveaway Closed)

Throughout both of my pregnancies (and after), Ive been fortunate enough to have an inflatable birthing/exercise ball. These balls are really the best to have around when youre hugely pregnant and uncomfortable sitting on the couch or floor, and can also be used during pregnancy to exercise on and during labor to speed things along. Unfortunately, my first pregnancy ball (a regular exercise ball from the store) developed a hole in it. So for this pregnancy, Ive used the Bounce-A-Bye Baby Ball from Luna Lullaby. Some of the things I really like about the Luna Lullaby Bounce-a-Bye Baby birthing balls: They come in three different colors with sweet, cheerful images to choose from including a frog, a butterfly, and a puppy. Each ball arrives with a stabilizing base, a hand pump, and a pamphlet with suggestions for use and detailed care instructions. The balls are all anti-burst. Theyre made of…

EcoTools Natural Bamboo Cosmetic Brushes {Review}

Have you ever purchased a special makeup brush only to be deeply disappointed in the quality and performance? I certainly have! One of my things that annoys me the most is when bristles fall out it drives me crazy and I just end up throwing the brush away. I dont buy cheap brushes anymore for this reason. That was before I discovered EcoTools. In my search for a good eyeliner brush about six months ago, I bought the EcoTools Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush. I knew I was taking a risk since it was only about $3.00, but I loved the way it looked and was drawn in by the fact that it is made of all natural, recycled materials. I ended up being SO happy with my experience with this brush (and my eye makeup results) that I knew I would have to go back for more! Before I had…

Games to Teach Reading Keep Kids Motivated to Learn

This post brought to you by: You might wonder if there really are games to teach reading to kids. After all, it is not uncommon to associate the word game with playtime and the word reading with learning. However, the reality is that games that have been designed to teach children to develop cognitive skills are actually very fun and effective learning tools. In fact, the more a child is enjoying themselves, the more likely it is they will be open to absorbing what is right in front of them. The most ideal games to teach reading arent just those that focus on letter sounds, they are interactive activities that have been designed to effectively build cognitive development. These types of games have been developed based on the latest cognitive theories related to how children learn. Kids respond well to these games because they provide a child with a task…

A Fun-Filled Night of False Labor…

I was SO sure that I was going to really go into labor last night. I was having very intense contractions from 2 to 5 to 8 minutes apart from about 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. they were radiating into my back and very very uncomfortable, but not quite to the point where I couldnt walk or talk through them. I tried to sleep and couldnt, so got up at about 1 a.m. and took a shower. That must have calmed them because after that I was able to sleep and only had a couple more throughout the night. I really cant believe that its morning now and Im not in labor! So disappointing. Yes, I want to be in agonizing labor today! haha Bring it on! This is so different from how things happened with Emma. I mean, I remember being miserable and having contractions on and off before…

How to Stay Sane While Waiting For an Overdue Baby

Please note that I am not an expert on staying sane as I have not had my baby yet and feel like I am slowly losing my mind. But I thought writing this post would help both myself and the others who I know are suffering the same fate: Having to waaaait in misery while their babies take their sweet time presenting themselves to mommies eager to meet them not to mention have their bodies back! Method #1: Dont Associate With Women Who Have Newborns Known as the Non-Pregnant. Its not their fault they dont mean to make you feel bad by saying things like, Wow, it feels so good to not have heartburn anymore! or Im feeling better every day I have my energy back!. Someday soon you will join the ranks of the insensitive new mommies as well, but until then you will feel very alooone. This I…
