On My Nightstand…

Im currently reading through the Cheney Duvall, M.D. series by Gilbert Morris. This brings back a lot of memories I first read the series when I was about sixteen and loved them (and Shiloh, the hero, lol) so much that I read and re-read these eight books regularly. Oh, and I named my dog after Shiloh. *grin* Shiloh (the dog, lol) Its been awhile since I read these, but Im struck by how well-written they are. Cheney is a believable main female character, a lady doctor in the Victorian era who, in the first book, has just graduated from a womens medical college. She has her flaws and makes mistakes, but tries hard to do the right thing. I can easily relate to her. Shiloh, a man who is sent by a friend to be Cheneys nurse (that was a surprise), also his flaws, and is not a Christian something…

Babylegs, Cakes, and the Screaming Banshee

Well, we enjoyed our weekend. 🙂 John enjoyed his birthday and even requested that I make him another cake yesterday after wed finished off the first one! lol Thats quite a shocker I didnt think he liked cake that much. He didnt think he liked cake, either, but said this recipe was the best hed ever had. Im glad I found it. 🙂 The baby is busy busy busy! One day last week she woke up and started noticing more, grabbing at more, being waaay more vocal. Thats what it seems like anyway like shes grown overnight. Her hands are in her mouth all the time now and she drools like crazy (teething?). Yesterday she tried to grab the remote control for the TV. It starts. lol Shes checking out her vocal abilities, too. She makes noises that range from low cooing noises when shes playing to delighted shrieks and…

Happy Friday!

Some photos from this week: Taken from our patio see, apartments arent all that bad! Well, I think Emma has found her hands (sorry about the bad quality, taken with my camera phone) Playing with toys takes some serious concentration

Birthdays, Babies, and Bibles

As I write this, Emma is grinning up at me from her bouncer next to my desk. A month ago she was sleeping from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with feeding and playing breaks) in her swing, but somewhere along the line she decided she didnt want to be sleeping the day away if she could possibly get me to bring her in the computer room with me. Sometimes she naps, sometimes she plays, sometimes she fusses. Uh oh, there went that smile now shes fussing for who knows what reason. Whatever it is, its a serious crisis. :-/ *A couple minutes later* Well apparently she just needed her pacifier put back in her mouth so she could doze off again. Looks like mommy bored her to tears. 😉 So today is a special day Johns birthday! He had to work, of course. But I got up at 4:15 this…

A Rad Weekend

Rad. Is that an eighties word? 😉 My cousins said it when they were teens (and I was 10 or 11)and I thought that they must be pretty rad themselves for saying it. Now it just sounds funny. lol If any of my cousins are reading this right now (I doubt it but my very cool uncle might), you guys are OLD! Im in a speculative and thoughtful mood right now. I just walked purposelessly (is that a word?) around our small apartment, staring blankly around and feeling like something wasnt right. The house is clean. Thats not the problem. The baby is not crying. Wait, thats partly the problem. In fact, shes peacefully sleeping in her swing. John is sleeping, too. The house is silent. Too silent! I need noise, Im not used to this especially the fact that the baby doesnt need me. Shes been sleeping for three…

The Host by Stephenie Meyer ♥

Two heads are not always better than one. (I know, thats so not funny. :-p) In The Host by Stephenie Meyer, we are introduced to a very different Earth than the one we are familiar with. An alien race has infiltrated Earth and humanity. Little by little they have taken over human bodies, calling them hosts and placing their own souls inside them. They believe that they can do a better job at inhabiting and bringing peace to Earth than the greedy, power-hungry, cruel humans had done, and so they have invaded and conquered. Or so it seems. Small groups of humans have managed to keep their bodies from becoming hosts to this alien race, and Melanie, along with her little brother and the man she loves, was one of them. Was. Until she was captured and her body became a host to an alien called Wanderer. Unlike most other…
