Currently Reading Jane Eyre (Chapters 10-14)

Currently reading: Jane Eyre by Charlotte BronteChapters 10-14 In which Jane Eyre grows up, advertises for a position, travels to Thornfield Hall to be governess to little Adele, and meets Mr. Rochester. Jane is finally grown and her attitudes and the change in the way she reminisces reflects that. She is restless, and puts this advertisement in the local newspaper: A young lady accustomed to tuition (had I not been a teacher two years?) is desirous of meeting with a situation in a private family where the children are under fourteen (I thought that as I was barely eighteen, it would not do to undertake the guidance of pupils nearer my own age). She is qualified to teach the usual branches of a good English education, together with French, Drawing, and Music (in those days, reader, this now narrow catalogue of accomplishments, would have been held tolerably comprehensive). Address, J.E.,…

God’s Girl

Its been four and a half months since my little sweet pea was born. Im reveling in this new feeling, in this entire experience of being a mommy. Its new, its exciting, its exhausting, its wonderful. I love it. What do I love about it? The sleepy smile on her face in the early morning hours when I lift her out of her crib into my arms. Her baby smell, especially just after her bath when she smells of Burts Bees baby wash. Being able to make her giggle and smile and laugh. Knowing that I can soothe her cries by feeding, changing, or holding her. Reading her her first book, and seeing her touch each picture and talk to it. Watching her peaceful sleeping. Bouncing her in her bouncer with my foot while attempting to catch up on my computer/blogging time. Holding her in my lap while I type…

Librarians Get All the Fun

I want to know why dont librarians smile more? It seems like theyre always stressed out or are grumpy (or maybe they just dont like me? lol). It just doesnt make sense to me! I mean, here they have the greatest job ever right? Is there something I dont know about being a librarian? They probably get first dibs on good books coming out, they get to work around books ALL DAY (Im so jealous) and discover new ones as they come across the counter, they get to learn about their patrons by the books they check out (that in itself would make the job so interesting lol), and its a nice, quiet environment in which they get to smell that lovely book-smell that should be bottled. 😉 I just dont get it, it seems like so many libraries I go to have librarians that either seem high-and-mighty or too…

Gianna Jessen, Abortion Survivor

Gianna Jessen, Abortion Survivor. She survived a saline abortion (burns baby in the womb, the baby is supposed to be delivered dead) when her biological mother was 7 1/2 months pregnant. This woman is not afraid of what people think of her, not afraid to say that she gives all the glory to Jesus Christ. She has cerebral palsy. A couple quotes to whet your appetite: I should be blind, I should be burned, I should be dead. We have removed our emotions, we are becoming harder. Do you really want that? At the end of the day, is it all about you? Or me? My life was being snuffed out in the name of womens rights. I would not have Cerebral Palsy had I not survived all of this. So when I hear the appalling, disgusting argument that we should have an abortion because the child just might be…

BBAW Blogging Tips!

Todays assignment from My Friend Amy for Book Blogger Appreciation Week is to answer these two questions: What is one thing you wish you knew about blogging when you started or what advice would you give a newbie blogger? I dont really know that Im qualified to answer these questions since Im a pretty new blogger myself, but Ill do my best! And Ill definitely be interested in reading others tips, because I need all the help I can get! The things Ive learned from surfing around other peoples blogs and doing my own research is that 1. It is important to have an attractive, easy-to-navigate design. 2. Stay on your topics (I myself blog about everything and wonder if that is too overwhelming for one blog, but so far Im just having fun with it and keeping on). 3. Post every day if you possibly can. 4. I also…

Emma loves Jane Eyre, too!

I have very mixed feelings about this I leave the room for a minute with my beloved copy of Jane Eyre on the floor (where I was reading it) about four feet away from Emma, my 4 1/2-month-old daughter. Alas, her days of being immobile and trustworthy are over! I walk in and find her ON the book like shes bodysurfingThis was after I had screamed and pulled the book out from under her. Aieeeeeeee! You know, I was happy that she liked books. Was. Before. My books are all in danger now. I feel the panic welling up within me My POOR Jane Eyre! *wailing* Its ripped and slimed But oh, her delightwhen she reads of Janes plight! And how could anyone, saved by Gods gracestay mad at this face? 🙂
