Yesterday’s Embers by Deborah Raney ♥ My Review

Yesterdays Embers by Deborah RaneyHoward Books (March 24, 2009) Synopsis: (It was really hard to write a synopsis for this I didnt want to give anything away. There is so much more to the story than Im sharing.) When Douglas DeVores wife and one of their six children die tragically, Doug is broken and doesnt see how he will ever escape the dark pit that has become his life. His remaining five children, all of whom he loves to pieces, are his only reason for getting out of bed every morning. Then he begins to notice his childrens daycare teacher, Miss Mickey. She brings a smile to his face, and his children adore her. Is Mickey Valdez Gods answer to Dougs loneliness? My Review: My first book by Deborah Raney was Beneath a Southern Sky. I was so moved by the book, I cried through it (more like sobbed). And…

ShadyBaby Stroller Parasols ♥ Sweet Baby Accessories

I think these are absolutely adorable! Summer is coming and with it the lovely (but unforgiving) sun which means that Ill have to start thinking of ways to keep the sun out of my daughters eyes. This would be perfect, not to mention super cute! About ShadyBaby: Before starting a family, Heather Leslie and Brian Winterling bought an around-the-world plane ticket to scratch their world travel itch (for the moment). While in countries like Thailand and Vietnam, they adopted the local custom of walking with a parasol to help block the relentless summer sun. Then in Europe, they noticed that most of the childrens buggies were parasol-equipped as well and wondered what the strollers were wearing back home in the USA. When they returned to Denver, CO, which has over 300 days of sunshine, they were surrounded by families pushing strollers with all manner of insufficient sun protection: blankets draped…

Fitness Friday ♥ Trainers, Confessions, and Judge Judy

This Fitness Friday post is going to contain a confession. Not a fitness-related confession exactly, but if you really want one of those Ill include one at the end of this post. 😉 My confession is that I watch Judge Judy and Peoples Court. LOL I dont know if I dont have enough drama in my life or what (thats SO not true), but I really like trying to figure out who is going to win, who is going to mess up their whole case by admitting something stupid, who is going to get yelled at for being an idiot. One thing I know. I would never go on one of those shows. lol I dont like getting yelled at, thank you very much. So why am I confessing this? Well, yesterday I watched Peoples Court and there was this guy on there, a personal trainer dude who is known…

Adventures in Weaning

Weaning is miserable business. Seriously. I dont know how I thought it would happen maybe I thought I would be the one to initiate it. But its not me, its Emma. Shes done with me! *sniff* Expectations When I first started nursing, I was sure I wouldnt last longer than six months. It seems to be a point that many moms start getting tired of it, or babies start slacking off some. My mom nursed me that long and I had met others who weaned at six months. But at six months, nothing changed. And we were doing so well that I decided to nurse until Emma was one year old. So seven, eight, nine, ten months passed. Lil Miss Independent Now were at the eleventh month and suddenly Emma doesnt want to nurse as often. Honestly, Im not one of those moms who wanted to nurse her baby forever…

Unique Baby Gift Idea ♥ That Baby DVD and CD (GIVEAWAY!)

Looking for a unique baby gift that will delight your young children? Ready for something new? Look no further than That Baby DVD! When I first popped this DVD into our DVD player and sat down on the couch (my 11-month-old daughter was with me, so I didnt feel too silly), I was so impressed! I found myself lulled into a relaxed state by the soft music and images I didnt want to get up off of that couch. *Note to self: Do not turn on That Baby DVD if you intend on working out in the next hour* I glanced over at my daughter in her pack n play and found her peeking over the side with a little smile on that pacifier-adorned mouth. She loves music, and soon was bobbing around in her own little made-up toddler dance. As I listened to the cheerful lyrics and soothing songs,…

Fitness Friday ♥ I’m a Wii Fit Snob

Yes, you read that right. Im a Wii Fit snob. And I freely admit it! When did I come to this conclusion? Well, it was while commenting on a fellow Wii Mommys Fitness Friday post that the revelation came to me. I suddenly realized that I was thinking this way: Yoga? Without the balance board and my Wii? Are you kidding? Isnt that boring? How can you tell if youre balanced or not? (Wow, that is way too many question marks). Anyway, how will I be able to tell if Im getting better at the exercise without a score at the end? I want to keep seeing that score of 99 at the end of my Warrior Pose I NEED to see it! Soccer heading. Would I really go out to a wet and muddy field (I live in a rainy state) and bounce balls off my head in real…

Baby Steps to Going Green and Organic

What do you think about going green? Are you feeling the pressure, like I am? The way the other mom bloggers are glancing covertly at each other and whispering about the mom blogger who uses *gulp* bleach in her home? With kids in the house? *gasp* Okay, (LOL) that was a total joke. But truly, it seems that everywhere I look around the blogosphere, in the supermarkets, in magazines, were being shown how to go greener. I have to admit Ive been skeptical. I mean, Ive heard of people going completely paranoid (no one take offense until I finish my thought! lol) and using all natural products, going vegetarian and totally organic, not using a microwave, etc and then they end up with cancer anyway. So sad. Anyway, that made me wonder if it is really worth all the work and money it takes to go completely green and organic….

Belle Baby Carriers ♥ Review and Giveaway!

Giveaway closed! Oh the myriad of baby carriers on the market nowadays! Pick your favorite style, size, color there are front-carriers, backpack-carriers, hip-carriers, slings, pretty much whatever you can think of. Its hard to narrow them down, isnt it? The best and most sure way to find a carrier that will be right for you is to try different types yourself, but not everyone is close enough to a store that allows that. The rest of us have to rely on other mom reviews. Im going to do my best here to give you an honest and thorough review. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments! Okay, first of all a comparison. My first baby carrier was one I bought from Walmart (I wont name any brands). It was cheap and did the job fine while Emma was a newborn. But as time went…

FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers for Baby ♥ GIVEAWAY!

Giveaway Closed What comes to mind when you think about cloth diapers? Heres what I used to think: Huge squares of white cotton (and why are they always white?) folded and pinned to babys (temporarily) clean little rear. You follow along in babys wake, hoping hoping that nothing leaks through. In about 20 minutes you have to change the diaper again, emptying noxious substances into the toilet and trying not to pass out (dramatic, arent I?). Diaper pail fills with dirty diapers and you keep putting off washing them in the hopes that your husband will empty it (yeah RIGHT) Whew, wake me from that nightmare! FuzziBunz definitely changed my perspective. Gone are the days of cloth diaper hassle! If you want to save money and make things more comfortable for your baby, FuzziBunz are for you! You might still have to deal with the diaper pail, but its worth…
