What Should Your Preschooler Know? (Flash Kids Preschool/Kindergarten Curriculum Recommendation)

As parents, were always excited when our child learns something new especially in the early years! I remember thinking Emma was a total genius because she could count to 20 when she was 2 (probably partly because she didnt really talk otherwise). And now that shes a preschooler and learning by leaps and bounds, I can hardly keep up with her! But do you know what your preschooler should know before they enter Kindergarten? Well, according to Flash Kids your child should be able to:

  • Recite the alphabet
  • Recognize letters by name
  • Identify letter sounds
  • Answer a question with a complete thought
  • Listen to stories read aloud
  • Follow simple two-step directions
  • Grip and use pencils, scissors, and crayons
  • Count to 10
  • Identify and sort objects by shape and color
  • Make simple patterns

So now that you know what you guys should be working on, lets get on with it! 🙂 Today Im excited to be introducing you to an excellent new curriculum for preschool to sixth graders by Flash Kids!

Flash Kids offers serious learning tools with a lively, lighthearted feel. Developed in accordance to educational standards, our flashcards and workbooks cover essential math, reading, and language arts skills in a way that makes learning easy. Clear directions, charming art, and comprehensive answer keys allow children to work independently and with confidence.

Since Emma is the only almost-school-age child in our household, I was given the opportunity to review a handful of Pre-K workbooks for her along with a Pre-K to Kindergarten age workbook:

The covers immediately drew Emmas attention in a positive way she couldnt wait to get started! I like that each workbook introduces a different subject so that Emma doesnt have to work through it all in one large book. Ive found that changing things up is a good thing for small children with very very short attention spans, and so moving on to a different book after completing a couple of pages in one works well for us.

Take a look inside

I was pleased to see that the graphics and activities inside the books are bold, colorful, and very much like looking through an interactive picture book (and what child doesnt like to color inside a picture book? 😉 The activities are perfect for the preschool level, too. Emma had no trouble following the instructions and enjoys completing her tasks immensely. The workbooks I chose are more focused educationally (alphabet, numbers, sounds), but there are also dot-to-dot books and alphabet and number puzzle/game books.
