VTech InnoTab 2 Learning App Tablet – My 4-Year-Old’s Thoughts (With Video Demo!)

Learning Tablets are the coolest toys ever! We recently had the opportunity to review the VTech InnoTab 2 Learning App Tablet, our first-ever experience with an iPad-type device for kids, and were excited about sharing our thoughts on it with you. Emma even did a video review especially for this post. 🙂

InnoTab 2 Description & Features:

VTechs InnoTab 2 gives kids ages 4-9 their own tablet that keeps them engaged while they learn. This multi-functional tablet for children combines a photo/video camera, interactive animated e-books, creative activities, tilt sensor learning games, and a rich collection of applications into a sleek and durable toy. Kids can enjoy e-books, music, photos and videos on-the-go just like mom and dad. The 5 touch screen, tilt sensor, microphone, pop-up (onscreen) keypad, and stylus allow children to play games, create art, take notes, or use utilities like the onboard calendar or friends list all on one device. Additional apps such as games, e-books and music can be easily uploaded to the InnoTab 2 through VTechs Learning Lodge Navigator. With 2GB on-board memory and an expandable SD card slot, the InnoTab 2 will keep your child endlessly engaged.

Our Thoughts:

Like the MobiGo 2, the InnoTab 2 has a variety of downloadable apps, cartridge games, ebooks, and videos you can play. The games are really fun and there are some great educational options, too. Many of them educational enough that I can have Emma play them as part of her preschool lessons! For example, there are some that require tracing letters of the alphabet, counting, logic, and much more. And I love that the InnoTab 2 is motion sensitive so that many of the games can be played by tilting the device back and forth. The apps and ebooks are easily downloaded via the included USB cord with the Learning Lodge Navigator.

The screen is large and it comes with a stylus for the touch screen. Emma chooses to use her fingers instead much of the time, but for some games the stylus does work better. It fits into a slot in the back of the device for storage but doesnt connect to it with a cord so you do have to keep tabs on it.

One of the special features of the InnoTab 2 is its swivel camera, and we are really pleased with not only the quality of her photos but the fun special effects and photo frames VTech added to the photo editing software built into the it. Emmas twisted and double-effect photos of her family have her laughing uproariously!

Another thing we really love is the MP3 player capability I was able to download songs from my computer to the music section and Emma was thrilled with that! Now she can listen to her music anytime she wants and she doesnt even have to ask! Watch the video review below to see a demonstration of this. 🙂

Because there are no button controls for playing the games, there is nothing extra to learn for younger children anyone can touch a screen, right? And older children will appreciate that it works like their parents smartphones and tablets. This makes it a very desirable device!

The InnoTab 2 takes 4 AA batteries. Were going through them pretty fast so I can see that an AC adapter is not going to be optional. I wish the adapter came with it, but it is sold separately.
