Little Scholastic Board Books Review

I have a blast collecting board books for my toddler. There are so many great books teaching and reinforcing shapes, colors, letters, animals, and numbers! When I was a little girl, I loved touch-and-feel books, and so Ive made sure Emma has quite a few of those to pick from. I know how much it means to a child to be able to see and touch as they learn.

One of my favorite publishers of educational board books is Little Scholastic. I received two books to review from them and they are most definitely the best we have right now. Theyre bold, colorful, detailed, and the touch-and-feel parts are well-done. The books are hardy and have held up well to my daughters rough treatment (though at 2 1/2 shes getting better she used to eat them!). Keep reading to find out more about these two books

Little Scholastic Shapes is a touch-and-feel board book for babies to age 2. There are 10 pages of basic shapes including circle, square, triangle, rectangle, and star, all shown in bright, colorful illustrations. For example, you can point out that the cars tires are circles, and then your little one can feel the bumpy circle on the next page.

This book is full of textures! Babies and toddlers will learn bumpy, smooth, scratchy, and rough with a bonus sparkly smooth star. The colors in the illustrations are all contrasting, making it easier for infants and babies to focus on them.

This is a terrific learning book for babies and toddlers! We give it five out of five hearts () for a great pick for infants and a teaching tool for toddlers learning their shapes!

Little Scholastic Petting Farm is a big padded touch-and-feel board book featuring all of the animals you would naturally find on a farm including pigs, goats, ducks, rabbits, a calf, baby chicks, sheep, and horses. Your little one can stroke a foals mane, touch a pigs soft snout, and pet a lambs fuzzy wool.

I love that they include full color photos of real animals in this book rather than illustrations I want my daughter to be able to identify a real goat, after all. 🙂 We live in the city and there arent a lot of opportunities to see live farm animals, but that doesnt stop Emma from loving animals what she knows of them anyway. So this book is a favorite for her. She loves to show off her knowledge of each animals name and the sound it makes.

Each spread features an animal, gives a brief sentence about the animal (I have soft yellow feathers, and I like to swim. I am a duck!) Then it gives the sound the animal makes (Quack! Quack!).

Oh, and did I mention it comes with a DVD? Emma is just as infatuated with the 20 minutes of cheerful music and farm animals she is introduced to in this DVD as she is with the book. In fact, shes been asking for it every day since we first saw it, and always wants to watch it through again thankfully theres a repeat play option. 😉

This is without a doubt our favorite animal touch-and-feel board book and the added DVD makes this a great value Emma loves them both! We give it 5 out of 5 stars ().
