Harry Potter Blu-Ray Ultimate Editions Review (Years 1 & 2)

As I explained in my Harry Potter Blu-Ray Giveaway post last month, I am a true Harry Potter fan. If you want to know why, I would go back to that post so I dont have to say all of it again lol. I own all of the books and all of the movies on DVD, so when the new Harry Potter Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray Sets were released I was ecstatic! Each of these special edition sets includes:

  • A NEW 1-hour feature from Creating the World of Harry Potter, an 8-hour documentary series revealing the filmmaking magic behind all 7 years! Each set will contain a one-hour disc, so youll want to buy them all as theyre released!
  • Theatrical and Extended Versions of the films
  • Over 2 hours of special features
  • Magical collectibles

For the first time ever uncover the intimate details, never-before-seen screen tests, inside stories by cast and filmmakers, and directors critical decisions behind the creation of Harry Potters world on screen!

Thanks to Warner Brothers, I received both of these sets to review!

I was very, very pleased with what I received each set comes in a sturdy case/gift box that will protect the Blu-Ray discs inside and look oh-so-nice in your shelf. I was pleasantly surprised to find that each set also included a free digital copy of the movie. You can you can load it on your iPod or watch it on your computer as well! The 48-page books are hardcover, nicely made, and a lot of fun to page through. They contain photos from all of the movies, behind-the-scenes photos, and even some pre-movie costume and scene sketches. Youll also receive collectible cardboard character cards.

The Viewing:

I was very curious to find out how much better the movies would be on Blu-Ray as opposed to DVD. My husband was skeptical and said we probably wouldnt notice a difference, but we were both pleasantly surprised that he was wrong (me especially, I love it when hes wrong). We noticed many things that we didnt remember seeing before in scenes we obviously had seen before (not the extra footage), details and such. The lighting was noticeably better as well, which helped.

I LOVE extended edition movies, and this one didnt disappoint me in the least! John and I even wondered a couple of times why they decided to cut certain scenes because they helped with the storyline. I loved the extra scenes!

Conclusion:

Im really pleased to be able to own these sets and will without a doubt buy the others when they are released! Even though we dont own a Blu-Ray player, we will be dragging my husbands Playstation 3 out to play these movies on from now on!
