GIVEAWAY: Scholastic’s New Animated DVD – Stellaluna!

We had just read the Scholastic storybook, Stellaluna, for the first time about a week before seeing the animated story on DVD, and I have to tell you it was a hit with Emma and myself. Both are delightful, and the DVD follows the book very closely, but with a few songs and some humorous dialogue added.

This is the story of Stellaluna, a baby fruit bat who loses her mother during an owl attack. She lands in a nest with three baby birds, and is accepted well, sort of accepted. She isnt to do anything that the baby birds dont do, and that most certainly includes hanging upside down! Mommy bird almost has a heart attack when she comes back to feed her babies a worm and finds all three of them and Stellaluna hanging upside down my absolute favorite scene in the movie and book!

The story really centers around Stellaluna not being able to fit in completely with everyone around her (the birds). In the end, she is reunited with her mother by chance and discovers that she is not a bird but a bat suddenly all the things that made her different and strange to the birds like not being able to land on a branch with her feet and not being able to whistle and sing are normal! I loved when her new bat friends found out she had been eating BUGS oh the disgust!

As with other Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVDs, youre able to watch it with or without the read-along function. Theres also a sing-along option!
