Preschool Fun with Emma: Learning About Sea Turtles! (With Free Printable!)

It all started with a cartoon that Emma became rather attached to (i.e. she watched it 17 times) A Turtles Tale: Sammys Adventures is a really cute movie on Netflix Instant right now very similar to Finding Nemo in movie style. If you havent seen it yet you should! It actually does include a lot of accurate facts about sea turtles, too that was the bonus that started us on our sea turtle study. Our first activity was our biggest one making a sea turtle with moveable limbs. We used a free printable (found here) for the head, tail, and flippers and used a big piece of watercolor paper for the shell. She painted the shell and then I put glue on the spots and shell ridges and let her sprinkle glitter on it (were out of glitter now by the way). We used paper fasteners (is that what theyre…

New Glasses (And the Fate of The Other Pair…)

It was a sad day when Emmas glasses broke Something I didnt realize before, being totally inexperienced when it comes to the care of glasses (neither my husband nor I wear them), is that we shouldnt have been trying to adjust Emmas glasses ourselves. You know, bend them back in place, pop the lens back in when it falls out, etc. Youre supposed to take them in and have them adjusted by a professional when they get out of whack. Unfortunately out of whack was something that happened OFTEN like every day what with Emmas activity level and Isaacs favorite game being how fast can I snatch Emmas glasses off her face. That kid has snake-like movements! :-p Finally one day my husband tried to adjust it back to normal and SNAP! Oh the wailing and gnashing of teeth! Okay, not really. So she got to pick a new pair…

New Ore-Ida Grillers Thick Cut Potatoes – Don’t Barbecue Without Them!

A new addition to the frozen section in grocery stores everywhere are Ore-Idas Grillers, thick cut potatoes that can be grilled right alongside your main course. I was able to try these for the first time ever this week and we loved them! Throwing the Grillers on the grill (Note that the slices are bigger than they appear – my husbands hands are huge so they make them look small, ha!) Frying slices of potatoes to be served with our barbecued steak or chicken is kind of a tradition for my husband and me since we were first married, so I knew this would be perfect for us. Im thrilled with this because it gives us the same crispy potato flavor without all the work of slicing and frying (which is usually my job). Who really wants to be standing over a stove for 20 minutes or more on a…

What I’ve Been Doing This Week :)

What Im Reading: Always the Baker Never the Bride by Sandra. D. Bricker This is a CUTE story about a baker who is falling for her boss at the wedding destination hotel she works for. The main character, Emma Rae, is in her 30s and independent, confident, quirky, fun, and totally someone I would want to be friends with. The things she does are so real I cant help but love her and her story. There are sweets and recipes all through the book, so probably not the best book to read if youre trying to be good in the diet area, but definitely some mouth-watering recipes I want to try. Enjoying this one! What Im Watching Hubby and I are watching the BBC series Merlin on Netflix through (again). Dont you love Merlins personality, and the way they have you laughing at something silly in every episode? The series…

Growing Snap Peas With Preschoolers :)

I really didnt know if this was going to work out this is really my first time gardening in any capacity! At least by myself I might have helped my mom with her vegetable garden when I was a teen but I dont remember much so I dont think I was a very big part of it. I really wanted to do this with Emma though and my mom kept encouraging me to get some pots and JUST DO IT. So finally I did! Okay, she helped out remember what Emma got for her birthday from her grandparents? Pots and seeds! lol Theres a way to get things moving. What am I supposed to say to Emma? No we cant use your new birthday presents? haha So anyway, we started out small. We planted snap peas and tomatoes. I told Emma the importance of watering her plants every day that…

Focus on Children’s Books: Get Dressed!

Todays featured book is Get Dressed by Seymour Chwast: Time to get all dressed up! This book is different than other lets get dressed books in that its more whimsical and imaginative than practical for instance, how would you get dressed to read about dragons? Each clothing item/accessory is labeled and then you open the flap to find exactly how to assemble your ensemble! Other things this book gets dressed for are hiding (a good intro to camouflage), playing outside in the snow, building a sandcastle, singing, and more! I like that this book is in a lift-the-flap format, it really encourages discussion about what the reasoning behind the clothing items on the flap could possibly be. What is he/she getting all dressed up for now? For younger tots, you can point out the various clothing items and see if they recognize what they are. This is a really cute,…

How to Get Your Kids To Have Daily Quiet Time (and Love It!)

I brought the subject of daily quiet time for kids up on Facebook one day last month and was surprised at the quick response from my awesome mom followers: Some said yes their children have daily quiet time, others wished their kids would have quiet time. But ALL of you felt it is a must! And it truly is, both for mommy and the little ones. I see a big difference in the way our day goes when my kids have had their quiet time that day. You know how kids are seemingly boundless energy, they will go go go ALL DAY if you let them from one activity to another. Its okay to sit them down apart from naptime and tell them they need to sit quietly and play (and not ask for anything!) for a set time. It teaches them independence and how to entertain themselves for awhile….

Look at the Size of that Worm!

Im always surprised at how fearless Emma is when it comes to picking up bugs and things. Like this humungous earthworm she found. Seriously this thing was huge! Lets all say it, Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
